Onboarding
For new users · ~4 min read · Last reviewed 22 July 2026
Seven steps, ten minutes, one fully wired client workspace. The wizard saves as you go and provisions everything at the end — so you can wander off for coffee at step 4 without losing anything.
Before you start
- A signed-in SeoKestrel account (see Sign-up & sign-in).
- Your first client’s domain, and ideally its Search Console property string — copied exactly from Search Console.
- Team members’ email addresses, if you want to add them now.
The 7 steps
- Welcome — a little about you and your agency.
- Your first client — name and domain. This becomes the client workspace.
- Connect data — record the Search Console property and Plausible site. (The Google account connection itself happens in Settings → Integrations — see Connecting data.)
- Invite your team — emails and roles. Accounts are created immediately and each new teammate receives an invitation email with sign-in instructions.
- Set a goal — optionally define your first OKR. Skippable; the quarter will still judge you either way.
- Reports — who receives the monthly PDF, and on which day of the month.
- Review — confirm. SeoKestrel creates the client, makes you head-of-seo on it, seeds the default reporting cadences, starts connecting the SeoSwift site crawler in the background, and drops you on the client overview.
Your next client — the short wizard
The 7-step wizard runs once per account, but adding clients never stops being a wizard. Open the client switcher in the top bar and choose Add client: four steps — New client → Connect data → Set a goal → Review — with the same finishing moves. You become head-of-seo on the new client, default reporting cadences are seeded, and the crawler connection starts in the background. Team invites and report recipients are deliberately not in this flow — both live in Settings.
Good to know
- Property strings must match Search Console exactly —
sc-domain:example.comandhttps://example.com/are different properties. The wrong one means no data and a sad dashboard. - Step 4’s invitation emails don’t gate anything: accounts exist the moment you finish the wizard, so a teammate whose email went to spam can still just sign in with that address.
- The crawler connection can be declined by plan limits. If Settings → Integrations shows “Could not connect — SeoSwift declined (plan limits?) or is unreachable.”, the Connect button retries it once you have headroom.
FAQ
- I invited a colleague during onboarding and they got nothing. Bug?
- They should have received an invitation email — ask them to check spam. Either way their account exists already: they just sign in at seokestrel.com with that email (magic link or Google).
- Can I re-run the wizard?
- The 7-step first-run wizard is once per account. Adding a client later opens the 4-step wizard instead — and everything either wizard does can also be done from Settings.
- I skipped the goal step. Did I commit career sabotage?
- No. OKRs can be created any time from the OKRs page. See OKRs & KPIs for what to write in them.
