Backlinks & performance

For SEO leads & dev leads · ~5 min read · Last reviewed 22 July 2026

Two tabs cover what other sites and other milliseconds are doing to your client: Backlinks tracks who links in and who quietly stopped, and Performance tracks Core Web Vitals for the pages you choose to watch.

The Backlinks tab

Four KPI cards summarise the profile — Active backlinks, Lost backlinks, Dofollow, and Avg. domain rank — above a Referring links table listing each link’s source domain, anchor text, domain rank (DR), dofollow or nofollow type, status, and first-seen date, with a filter for lost links. The profile is refreshed nightly from DataForSEO’s public link index (see Analytics & rankings); a link that vanishes from the index is marked lost rather than deleted, so the history stays visible.

Lost-backlink alerts

When a link from a high-authority domain (domain rank 50+) goes inactive, the daily alert run raises a lost-backlink alert on the client’s Alerts page — the higher the lost domain’s rank, the higher the severity. Low-authority churn is deliberately not alerted; it is the noise floor of the web.

The Performance tab

The Performance tab (“Core Web Vitals & PageSpeed”) shows, per device, the latest Performance score and the three Core Web Vitals — LCP (loading), INP (responsiveness), and CLS (layout stability) — plus a Performance score over time chart and a per-page table. The data comes from Google’s public PageSpeed Insights service, fetched nightly for each monitored URL on both mobile and desktop.

Choosing which pages to monitor

  1. Open Settings → Integrations and find PageSpeed monitored URLs.
  2. Enter one URL per line, up to 10 — the settings card notes that each URL costs 2 PageSpeed API calls per day (one per device).
  3. Save. The URLs are checked on the next nightly run; leave the list empty to turn monitoring off.

Good to know

  • Vitals regressions also feed the daily alert run: when a monitored page crosses one of Google’s official thresholds for the worse (for example LCP moving from “good” past 2.5 s), an alert is raised — crossing into “poor” is treated as more severe than merely leaving “good”.
  • Monitor templates, not everything: the homepage, a category page, a product or article page. Ten well-chosen URLs cover most sites’ real templates.
  • Backlink counts are as seen by a public link index — no index sees every link on the web, so treat direction and deltas as the signal, not the absolute count.

FAQ

A backlink disappeared but I got no alert. Why?
Lost-link alerts fire only for links from domains with a domain rank of 50 or higher. Losing a low-authority link is routine churn; alerting on all of it would bury the losses that matter.
The Performance tab is empty. What do I add where?
Add up to 10 URLs in Settings → Integrations under "PageSpeed monitored URLs" — one per line. They are checked nightly on both mobile and desktop, and the tab fills in from the next run.
Do performance checks slow down or touch my client’s site?
The measurements come from Google’s public PageSpeed Insights service, which loads the page the way a browser would. Nothing is installed on the site and no visitor data is involved.
